A 16-year-old L-plater was spotted by an off-duty officer doing burnouts in the wet weather in Forest Hills on Wednesday night.
The white ute was then sighted about 6.30pm on Thursday performing burnouts on Forest Rd near the cross of Browns Ln.
“After a quick investigation, officers spoke with a 16-year-old at his premises in Forrest Hills who admitted to be the driver on Wednesday,” Tamworth highway Sergeant Michael Buko told The Leader.
In total the L-plater will lose his licence for three months for driving unaccompanied, and was slapped with $2000 in fines for driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle.
A 17-year-old man handed himself into police and admitted to doing burnouts in the unregistered ute on Thursday night and was charged. He was also handed more than $1000 in fines.
Sergeant Buko said the loss of licence for both men should serve as a warning to other motorists.
“It doesn't matter where or when the offences occur, if you choose to drive in a dangerous manner, police will take action,” he said.
“Having a driver’s licence is a privilege, not a right and drivers have a responsibility to do the right thing or they will be penalised.”
