From The Carter Family’s music in the Appalachian region of Virginia in the 1920s, through to the Louvin Brothers, and sisters Emily Robison and Martie Maguire in the Dixie Chicks.
Closer to home we have seen the Hawking Brothers, the Dead Ringer Band and The Sunny Cowgirls to name a few.
On Thursday at the Longyard Hotel, Kaylens Rain is taking to the stage from 7pm.
The brother and sister duo – Glen and Kaylee Harrison – are touring and promoting their latest album, In Our Blood, which was released in March.
“It’s the way it’s always been,” Glen said when asked about families playing music.
“If you can take your family on the road with you it’s always a bonus and we are definitely carrying that tradition in a way.”
The siblings are joined by Kaylee’s husband Joel, who plays bass for the band.
“It’s definitely a real family affair with us. It’s really fun to play with those guys, that connection thing is really cool as well.
“We’ve really honed in on a cool acoustic sound, which is full as well, and we’re really loving playing that arrangement at the moment.”
“We’re getting a great response from our singles that have been out on radio. Firefly Summer, lots of people love and request that one and sing that back to us, which is really cool to see,” Glen told Talkin’ Country this week.
Firefly Summer was Kaylen’s Rain first music video to reach number one on CMC.
“It was a lot of fun to do that video, it was one of the easiest videos we’ve ever made actually. They just filmed a day at the beach basically, which was pretty fun, and the result
“Tribal Edge did that one and the result they came back with was pretty phenomenal, and to get to number one on CMC is no mean feat and we were rapt with that.”
Glen said other tracks from the album which weren’t singles, such as Living On Love, and the title track got a great response at live shows.
The live show also includes some covers of their favourite hits.
“We love our harmony songs, so anything from Little Big Town, or even Fleetwood Mac songs and The Dixie Chicks, The Eagles, all the great harmony songs, which is what we’re really strong on.”
Glen said the first concert he and Kaylee ever saw live was the Dixie Chicks, on their Top of the World tour when they were teenagers, and now they we’re looking forward to seeing them play at CMC Rocks Queensland next March, where they will also be performing.
