This stirring play centres around a man and a woman who, in spite of distance and circumstance, write letters to each other from childhood to middle-age, through marriages and divorces, successes, failures and clashing careers.
The beauty of this elegant piece for the audience is that it is imbued with realism, naturalism, humour, affection, warmth, romance and tragedy. The beauty of it for the actors is that they are able to read these letters in the way that intimate love letters should be read, in the seclusion of their own private space.
The passion of their shared love is palpable as the letters they pen reach across to each other from city to city and country to country.
Characters, Melissa and Andy say virtually all there is to be said between lovers about life, love, highs, lows and personal destiny... but in this narrative the trivial remark often reveals something much deeper
Elli, a convent school girl here in Tamworth from ages six to 17, has never forgotten her time in the region.
Garnering an extensive acting career in lead and supporting roles in feature films, television and theatre across three continents, Elli has worked with directors John Cassavetes, Francis Ford Coppola, Peter Weir and Tim Burstall and with fellow actors Gena Rowlands, Jon Voight and Claudia Cardinale to name a few.
In Love Letters, Elli teams up with close friend and actor, David Foster, to deliver this moving masterpiece. David had an extensive career on stage and in television in the 60s and 70s with featured roles in Division 4, Matlock Police, Bellbird, Number 96 and A Country Practice.
Don’t miss this beautiful piece of theatre and why not join the actors after the show for a glass of wine, some cheese and a chat! It’s all included in the ticket price.
