Tamworth schools' 2016 White Ribbon Gala Day huge success

The day of rugby league and union, hosted at Tamworth High School, is the focal point of the year-long anti-domestic violence program run by local schools.

Tamworth High teacher and White Ribbon organiser Kate McCrohon said they ran out of shirts because there were more children participating than they expected.

“It’s a good problem to have,” Dr McCrohon said, laughing.

“Every student that participates gets a commemorative shirt, so we get the message out in the community all year round. They wear the shirts to a whole range of different events.

“It’s a day of great pride for the students. It’s a day for them to stand up for what they believe in and showcase the message they’ve been learning about.

“They’re giving voice to that cause and they are bring about change in our society.”

Oxley High, Parry High and Manilla Central all took part in program, with boys and girls from all schools lining up on the footy field.

In the main event, the Oxley boys took out the open game with a 44-42 victory.
