THE fifth annual Benelkay Poll Santa Gertrudis Bull Sale will be held on a new date this year, making sale day Wednesday, August 31.
Stud principals Andrew and Jules Orman, “Glenmore” 34km north-west of Mullaley, in the Goolhi district, will have 50 “powerful” young bulls on offer that have come through the dry season with flying colours.
Bulls will be represented by seven of of the stud’s leading sires: Dangarfield Upkeep (PS), Warenda Furlong (P), Bullamakinka Dreamtime (P), Benelkay Lexus (P), Wave Hill Dapto (PS), Eidsvold Station Gavin (P) and new sire Bullamakinka H82 (P), who has had a major impact in his first season within the stud, siring over 20 sons in the sale team.
“Survival in the beef industry during the last four drought years has only strengthened our beliefs in the stud’s breeding objectives,” Mr Orman said.
“Our breeding programs continue to show us to stick with our commercial focus, and breed seed stock that will enable our clients to be able to produce cattle that fit into many different markets at any age.
“We are in the cattle industry to make money from beef, not to produce show ring cattle.”
As well as all the normal information, each animal has morphology and semen testing, scrotal measurements, current scans for eye muscle area, fat measurements and daily weight gain.
The bulls are backed by Breedplan figures, as well as DNA testing for the poll/horn gene to identify the homozygous poll (PP) bulls, of which there will be 30 in the sale team.
This year there are also five outstanding horned bulls in the catalogue.
“Just give us a call to organise an inspection of the bulls,” Mr Orman said.
