They should do the same as Toowoomba. During the dry seasons and drought, the main water courses thru town have been made wider, deeper and less constricted. We have big retention basins set up to slow the flow of flood water when it rains but when it's dry, they're big open parks, one of them is even used as a golf driving range. The peel has always been Tamworth's time bomb, especially when the Cockburn joins in at Nemingah. But looking at it from council’s point of view, the cost would be huge, the greenies will try to stop it, it will take a long time to do and if they make it look good, people will trash it anyway.

Just a question. Without the trees and the debris will we have wholesale erosion? The Darling system has many examples that can be examined apart from the Peel. Do we want to take the chance to mess it up. I first moved to Tamworth in 1970 an Tamworth has come a long way since then. Done good, run strong as Jack Gibson would have said. Just saying.

The river needs cleaning...its a disgrace...the trees hold the banks in place n stop erosion

Shhhh don’t tell the greens if u kill the trees they would rather floods

If all the water was concentrated in the river when it floods instead of being allowed to spill out over the flood plain then the river wouldn’t be in the sad state it is now … cutting down more trees will only increase erosion resulting in more sediment being washed away – you can’t fix this problem by cutting down trees .. what needs to happen is to reduce the severity f the water rushing down and the only way to do that is to let it flood the plains as well but obviously people aren’t going to be for that either
