THE Tamworth City Swimming Club's Mikaela short was recognised as the standout female swimmer at the recent NSW Country Short Course Championships in Sydney.

The golden girl's performance saw her named the "female swimmer of the meet".
Competing against swimmers in some instances nine years older than her, the 13 year old won the Open womens 50m butterfly, setting a new NSW and Country record in the process.
She also took out silver in the Open 50m backstroke, again against older swimmers, and bronze in the 13's 100m free, swimming personal bests in all three events.
Club-mate Josh Riggien also put in some great swims at the meet, with three pbs and two State qualifying times.
Short was also crowned the 13 years girls age champion at last months New England North West Area Short Course Championships.
Archie Barnett and Amelia Simm also both won their age championships, while Molly Johns topped the 16yrs girls and Lyndell Boschma in the open girls.
Ed George meanwhile was runner-up in the 14yrs boys, Reuben Short the 16yrs boys, Riggien the open boys and Anna Cross the multi-class.
The clubs' swimmers between them also broke 15 area records.
Short broke six of those setting new marks in the 13yrs girls 100m freestyle, 200 individual medley , 50m backstroke, 100m backstroke, 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly.
Barnett matched her effort, breaking the 9yrs boys 100m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 50m freestyle, 100m backstroke and 100m butterfly.
