Organiser Helen Mary Jones said she felt the city was experiencing an epidemic of mental illness and suicide - particularly in school students - and she wants the future to be healthier.

Mrs Jones hopes the forum will be a grassroots movement for securing another mental health unit in Tamworth, specifically for young people.

That’s long-term; in the meantime she’d like to see a detailed leaflet showing all services available to people who are struggling, and more education in schools and the community to increase awareness and reduce stigma.

Mrs Jones and other organisers have met with Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson and are arranging a venue.
