Although many were waiting on good falls, they came in pockets, but for some it was the best rain for more than three weeks.
It was enough early on though to disrupt some sport for the day and close council sporting grounds in Tamworth.
The rain arrived in Tamworth just before 10am and delivered a steady soaking – 13mm up to 5pm.
Forecasters were predicting showers and drizzle would stick around to about 3am today, when it was likely to clear to some patchy showers, with a chance of some more moisture on the slopes tomorrow.
Walgett recorded nearly 17mm to 5pm yesterday, Narrabri the same, Armidale had 15mm, Gunnedah just short of 8mm, Inverell just over that mark and Glen Innes nearing 7mm.
