The Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove will arrive in the New England on Thursday of next week, with a very full dance card for their three-day stopover.
Thursday’s activities begin at Inverell RSM Club, where the official couple will meet members of the Kurrajong Re-Enactment Committee and veterans.
Students and teachers at Macintyre High School will then welcome the Cosgroves, who will view training facilities at the school before calling in to inspect the town’s Linking Together Centre.
They will meet residents of McLean Care Retirement Village and see the great work being done at the BEST food garden, before a civic reception hosted by the mayor at the town hall.
Their day in Armidale on Friday will entail a visit to the Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Keeping Place, and a civic reception at NERAM at lunchtime.
The Governor-General will open the new multi-purpose hall at Minimbah Primary School, followed by a trip to the University of New England, and meeting scientists and researchers at the CSIRO.
Friday’s main engagement is the official opening of the Guyra show at 6.30pm.
Back in Armidale, the Cosgroves will visit St Vincent de Paul Society’s Freeman House and meet up with navy cadets at Armidale airport, before their departure.
The official visit intends to acknowledge the work of people in education, agricultural research, aged care and tourism, and also community initiatives that help local residents in need.
