About 5.20pm on Saturday, traffic and highway patrol officers stopped a vehicle on the New England Highway at Wallabadah to conduct a random breath test.
After speaking to the five men in the car, police performed a search of the vehicle and allegedly found 36 steroid tablets and 23 resealable bags, each of which contained a substance believed to be methylamphetamine.
A 21-year-old man from Warwick Farm in Sydney was subsequently arrested and charged with possessing steroids.
Further charges may be laid, depending on the results of tests on the substance found in the resealable bags.
The 21-year-old was granted bail to appear in court on Monday, October 15.
The charges came after a large number of Rebel bikies arrived in Tamworth on the weekend, allegedly for a member's birthday celebration.
