The side sits last on the Tamworth first grade table in a season that has been decimated by dampness but has been topping the sundries lists.
On Saturday the South bowlers let loose with 26 wides in their washed-out one-day clash with North Tamworth at Chaffey Park.
They bowled a total of 39 sundries in a total of 130 where Phil Constable (23) and Lincoln Peters (23) topscored batting at eight and nine.
“They scored 130,” South’s Josh Crowe said from his car as the rain pelted down.
“About 40 more than they should have.
“We had them 7-47 at one stage but 26 wides allowed them to blow out to 130.
“The bowling wasn’t the best but their tail did wag and Phil Constable does what he does.
“The track was a bit soft early on and the new ball did a lot.
“Gus (Angus McNeill) and Ozzie (Troy Osborne) did move the ball around in the air and off the deck.
“We felt pretty good about chasing 130 too.”
However his side never got the chance.
It mirrored a previous game against North when they bowled them out cheaply and were washed out before batting.
“Yeah, the second time against Norths we bowled first and didn’t get to bat,” Crowe laughed.
In the other first grade clashes, West Tamworth had dismissed Bective-East Bulls for 126 when the rain forced the abandonment of that match where Jake Baker claimed 3-20 and Adam Cruickshank 3-29.
Jye Paterson topscored with 31 for the Bulls.
Understrength Old Boys were 5-166 with two overs left when the storm hit around 3.20pm.
Old Boys were missing skipper Ben Middlebrook, Simon Norvill, Adam Lole and Aaron Hazlewood but stand-in skipper Abel Carney and Chris Dobson took charge against City United.
They piled on a 92-run opening stand, with Carney making a 70-ball 54 and Dobson unbeaten on 68 when forced off.
Ben Semmler was the pick of the City bowlers with 2-20.
TDCA first grade competition enters a sixth round this Saturday when the competition reverts to two-day games.
City United are drawn to play West Tamworth at No 1 Oval, Old Boys and North Tamworth match up at Chaffey Park and Bective Bulls tackle South Tamworth at Dick Edwards Oval.
