However the captain-coach thought some of his teammates deserved it more than he did.
His humble reply to being told of his polling the referee’s points in the Player of the Year was in direct contrast to his stark charges into the Gunnedah defences.
It earned him two tries, one of which he carried three or four defenders with him across the line, and put his side on the front foot countless times in their big 46-34 win over Gunnedah Bulldogs.
His side is on a roll after beating Narrabri at Manilla Showground the week before while he moved up the B&F table to five points, just five adrift of leader Chris Vidler.
Trindall thought the likes of Dustin Munn, Iowane Divavesi and young hooker Micah Scarth all had huge games while Will Saunders, who also crossed for two tries, Chris Hunt and Robbie Bergen excelled.
Bergen had kicked nine from nine goals the week before and kicked six from seven on Sunday, blotting his perfect record with his fifth attempt of the day, trying to convert Brad Vidler’s try.
While the side has lost four of its former first graders because of moves away to work, the “new-look” Diggers have gelled in the past few weeks.
Scarth’s addition has been a bonus.
“He played the trials with us but hadn’t been playing until the last few weeks,” Trindall said.
“He’s made a big difference.”
The Diggers, too, are on a roll.
“Three in a row,” Trindall said with a big smile about the prospects of bumping off competition equal leader North Tamworth this weekend.
“It’s a big ask, I know, but we’ll get to training.
“Anything can happen.”
His side now sit fourth, just two points adrift of Narrabri, looking at a semi-final spot.
That’s a long away from last year’s winless season and some major hidings.
While Diggers play North Tamworth this weekend, West Lions host Narrabri Blues and Gunnedah and Wee Waa match up in lower grades.
