Streater teed off as heavy favourite after taking out last year’s tournament at the Longyard, and finding form good enough to recently have had him playing off plus 6.
He came into the tournament at plus 5 but his par 70 round was good enough.
Tamworth’s Ben Lockwood came in two shots behind him, and the Longyard’s John Trevaskis one behind him, although Streater said he never felt the pressure on the course.
“They were pretty good to play with,” Streater said.
“We just had a round of golf really.”
While 70 would please most golfers in the region, for Streater it was a bit ordinary on a course he usually hits several fewer on.
“I should go around in 65 but I have been hitting 66 recently,” Streater said.
“It is almost impossible to win the Saturday comp at plus 6 so I have to take them where I can get them now.”
Jock McPherson hit a competitive 84 in the juniors although, as the only junior there, took the title anyway but highlighted a concern for the association.
President Harry McKerrow has put the call out to the 40 odd players that did play this year, with any suggestions on how to get more registered players in the tournament each year, after years of struggling for numbers.
“It was a great day but we just need more players involved,” McKerrow said.
“The course was in excellent condition and it was a beautiful day.”
