Baton relay, ball cap celebrations

June 1 2015 - 4:00am

100 YEARS STRONG: About 20 local policewomen ran the 5km relay leg around Tamworth on Saturday to mark the centenary anniversary of women in the police. The baton, which is making its way around the state, left the Ibis Hotel before Constable Jamie-Lee Higham, pictured above, Jill Smith and Constable Alyce Russell, holding the baton, right, helped to deliver the ceremonial baton into Bicentennial Park with others, amongst a backdrop of historical displays of women in police. A police gala ball on Saturday night to raise money for two charities capped off the relay and local celebrations for the centenary event.
