The Oxley Target Action Group has taken charge of the investigations into the incidents.
Investigators have obtained CCTV of the ram-raid at Country Auctions on Armidale Rd, Nemingha, which was targeted by offenders in the early hours of April 26, when a stolen car slammed into the business’s front doors.
TAG Sergeant Geoff Sharpe told The Leader investigators had discovered the car used was stolen from a home shortly before and driven to the business.
“The first offence occurred between midnight and 1.40am Sunday morning, in Larool St, South Tamworth, when two persons were observed jumping over a side fence into the rear yard of the premises,” Sergeant Sharpe said.
“An amount of clothing and cash was stolen during that break-in, as well as a blue coloured Holden Commodore, which was driven away from the scene by the offenders.”
Sergeant Sharpe said at approximately 1.44am, CCTV showed the stolen Commodore reversing into the front windows of Country Auctions, smashing the front facade of the business and causing significant damage.
“Two offenders, described as 170cm – 180cm, thin build, wearing jeans and hooded jumpers, were then seen to get out of the vehicle, enter the premises and later left carrying a cash register till,” he said.
“The cash register till was later located in Chauvel Park, Waree Drive, West Tamworth and has been seized for forensic examination.”
Police were alerted to the ram raid that morning and later recovered the stolen Commodore on the corner of Warburton Rd and Evans Rd at Westdale.
Following investigations this week, Sergeant Sharpe confirmed a 20-year-old man had been arrested and charged with a break, enter and steal offence stemming from the Larool St break-in, but investigations into both incidents are continuing.
He said police were appealing for help from anyone who might have seen the stolen Commodore in Tamworth in the early hours of Sunday morning.
“Police are seeking any witnesses who may have knowledge about either offence, as well as the dumping of the cash register till in Chauvel Park, and the dumping of the stolen Holden Commodore in Warburton Rd, Westdale,” he said.
“Anyone with information is urged to contact Tamworth Police Station on 6768 2999 or Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.”
