Vincent Maxwell Duffy failed in his bid for bail on Wednesday but reappeared in Tamworth Local Court yesterday where he successfully secured his release.
The 35-year-old is facing charges of supplying cannabis leaf and possessing almost half a kilogram of cannabis after police swooped on Tuesday morning during a series of arrests.
Duffy allegedly came under notice by detectives attached to Strike Force Mewburn, an operation set up in June last year to investigate the sale of illegal drugs in Tamworth.
Police will allege Duffy supplied cannabis between September last year and March 10, when the police operation unfolded.
Duffy allegedly had almost half a kilogram of cannabis leaf in his possession when they came knocking.
After a list of proposed conditions was submitted to the court, Magistrate Mark Richardson granted conditional bail, ordering Duffy to report to police three times a week.
Magistrate Richardson said in order to secure the bail, an undisclosed person had to deposit $40,000 in cash to secure his release.
If Duffy fails to comply with his bail conditions, the money will be forfeited.
As part of his conditions, Duffy is prohibited from contacting his co-accused, any prosecution witness and has been ordered not to enter any international airport or Australian departure point.
Duffy was one of five men arrested during an extensive police operation involving Strike Force Mewburn detectives and Strike Force Raptor, the dedicated outlaw motorcycle gang’s enforcement squad.
Four men have been refused bail and a woman remains on bail charged in connection to the operation.
The case will head back to court later this month.
