The Rams turn 50 this year , a milestone they will commemorate on May 16-17 with a weekend of anniversary celebrations.
They will kick off with the action on the field against the Tamworth Magpies.
It is fitting that that’s who the Rams play, with a number of the club’s foundation members playing with the Magpies before the Rams were formed in 1965.
There had been a couple of attempts in 1958 and 1959 and then again in 1962 to get the club up and running but both times failed.
Following the games there will be an anniversary dinner at the Golf Club from 7pm.
Cost is $40 per person and rsvp is April 20.
Saturday night’s dinner will be followed by an all-day barbecue and catch-up at the rugby club.
The Rams have a proud history and, with Moree and Pirates, hold the record for the most consecutive premierships after winning four in a row between 1986 and 1989.
They have over the years produced many talented players, five of whom have gone on to play for Australia.
Jock Kelehar was the first back in 1933.
Bill McKid and Tom Bowman also wore Wallaby gold while Pip Carter played Sevens for Australia and Greg Darlington toured New Zealand with the Australian U17s.
Others have played for NSW.
Most notable is club legend Geoff White.
The mercurial back is the second most-capped player for the Rams with over 300 games.
Long-time halves partner Mark Simpson tops the list with over 400, while Sinclair Hughson pulled on the jersey on over 250 occasions.
Another nine players have clocked up over 200 and 84 100 games.
