Organiser Godfrey Wenness said flying conditions were looking good after a week of stormy weather across the region and pilots were expecting some great distances to be covered in the highly-anticipated international event.
“Already this month pilots have flown as far as Walgett, Yetman and Gulgong,” Mr Wenness said.
The XC Camp events are the only high-level international paragliding competitions using the “open distance” format, where pilots try to fly as far as possible for each of the eight days.
Starting today and running through until next Saturday, about 80 pilots, including some from Tamworth and Manilla, are competing, with 16 nations represented.
“A large team is here from Japan as well as the regular teams from New Zealand and Tahiti.”
And the weaker Aussie dollar has meant international pilot numbers are up from last year.
Visitors are welcome at Mt Borah during the competition, with the best flying to be seen between 10am and 2pm.
