KOOTINGAL-Moonbi Roosters JRLFC are a growing club, but they have called on two little men to help raise some cash for next season.
Former league star Alfie Langer and larrikin jockey and media personality Allan Robinson will drop in to help the junior Roosters with a fundraiser on Saturday and the club is hoping plenty of people will come along.
The day begins at noon at the Kootingal Hotel where the special guests will join patrons in a casual “sportsman’s day” till about five o’clock.
The main function will then be held at the Kootingal Bowling Club where the guests will talk about their experiences and probably tell a few jokes too.
“Alfie will tell some stories about when he played,” Kootingal-Moonbi Juniors club president Ty Taggart said.
“And Robbo will just be Robbo.
“That will be the entertainment.”
Anyone wanting to go to the dinner is encouraged to book with the club.
The cost is only $40 per person and includes entry and a Chinese meal.
All proceeded will go to the junior club, which used to be a little one, but is growing all the time.
“We started with 23 or 24 players,” Taggart said.
“Now we have 107 registered players.
“We’ve got every age group up to under 14s and this year’s 14s will stick together and play 15s next year.”
The club has three sides still alive in the Tamworth Minor League finals series and is still training hard in those age groups.
They hope to make the fundraising dinner an annual event to help maintain the club’s growth.
