The first class opened at Peel High School in April, 2007 and has been going from strength to strength since, growing to over 200 members.
The seven years following that has seen six centres open regionally, three in Tamworth and then Oxley Vale and Nemingha Public Schools, as well as Armidale and Gunnedah and, most recently, Uralla.
In a further expansion, United Taekwondo will open its very own centre under the name “Martial Arts Central” in Peel St.
The new centre will be run by Second Degree regional instructors Mike Vee and Jarrad Campbell who are both excited by the prospect of the new centre.
“The centre will give more opportunity for both children and adults in Tamworth to train in different forms of martial arts under the same roof,” Vee said.
“Other exciting arts available at the centre include MMA training and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.”
Women’s self-defence courses, anti bullying and Boxer size classes will be added to the timetable, as well as personal fitness training.
The official opening for the United Martial Arts Central will be November 1 and will include free demonstrations and a walk through the new centre.
United Taekwondo started with Sydney Taekwondo in 2000 which similarly expanded to include centres in Canberra, Wagga and the upper Hunter within three years, hence the name change to United Taekwondo.
The organisation is the brainchild of 5th dan Master Paul Mitchell, who has over 30 years’ experience.
“United Taekwondo is all about building confidence, self-esteem, fitness and self-defence,” Vee said.
“But above all, we aim to make each student a better person through the principles of true martial arts.”
All current United centre’s training will remain at the same time although current students are welcome to use the new centre as well.
Anyone interested is welcome to visit the new centre.
“With the summer sports starting, now is the time to try something different for yourself or your child,” Vee said.
