Greater Northern regional area manager Scott Bone said players born in 1998 and 1999 were eligible to nominate, with a trial in Tamworth next month.
“The Academy’s objectives are to identify talented rugby league players within the Greater Northern Region and provide access to skill and personnel development through a high-performance program,” Bone said.
“This year the program is open to players who were born in 1998 or 1999 (that is they will be turning 16 or 17 years of age in 2015).
“Training will be held throughout November and December before the players will break and return in late January 2015.”
An open trial for positions within the academy will be held at Jack Woolaston Oval, Tamworth on Saturday, October 11.
To nominate to trial, players need to complete an application form, which can be found at www.greaternortherntigers.leaguenet.com.au
Nominations to trial will close on Friday, October 3.
“The academy program has seen many players go onto higher honours, more recently players such as Matt Allwood, who debuted in the NRL with Canberra this year and Andy Saunders, who was named in the NYC team of the year and the Junior Kangaroos squad,” Bone said.
“Recently-named Group 4 Player of the Year, Trent Hilton from Gunnedah, has been a former participant of the program, with many players playing in the Group 4, Group 19 and Group 21 grand finals in 2014 also having been former players in the program.
“The academy provides an opportunity for young players from throughout the region to advance their skills in rugby league.
“Over the course of the program they will also have access to programs which we hope will not only make them a better player on field, but also from the sidelines.”
