Students and teachers moved to the groove of pirate life yesterday as International Talk Like A Pirate Day got into full swing.
The parodic holiday was created in 1995 and is held on September 19 each year.
It’s celebrated in more than 40 countries world-wide and is perhaps the only day you could use the term “Ahoy” instead of “Hello” without raising any eyebrows.
Moonbi School principal Bonita Broughton said students and teachers enjoyed the day.
“We’ve had lots of pirates here, the kids really got into it,” she said.
“One of the teachers did up a list of (pirate) sayings for all of the kids, they’ve been practising their very best but some of them are sounding more Irish than like pirates.
“We’ll certainly do it again, it’s a nice way to end the school term and the kids really enjoy it, they’ve all got big smiles on their faces.”
