Rebecca Webb said the kittens – Chai and Latte – had been missing for 24 hours, and she had stuck up posters and appealed to social media in the hope of finding them.
Her toddler Blake had “put them away” in the drawer on Sunday and blissfully forgotten about their whereabouts.
Come Monday, the two-and-a-half-year-old was “hysterical” about the lost felines and when Ms Webb collected Blake from daycare, confused staff said “he kept asking for a latte”.
Ms Webb said the relief at recovering the kittens – who do not meow – was overwhelming, but so too was the response on social media, with more than 100 people responding to her posts on one site.
It’s not the first time Blake has given the cats or household objects a quirky new home – Ms Webb has previously discovered Chai hidden in the potty and her car keys stored in a bag of mixed berries in the freezer.
