A Tamworth man on the country's most wanted list has been arrested in Melbourne.
The 32-year-old was captured after a tip-off through the Crime Stoppers anonymous number.
The man has been wanted by NSW detectives over alleged offences of causing grievous bodily harm to person with intent, aggravated break and enter and possess prohibited drug, stemming from an incident in South Tamworth on March 3, 2012.
Following NSW Police appeals through Operation Roam, a nationwide operation targeting some of Australia’s most wanted, a tip-off from two members of the public indicated the wanted man may have been frequenting the North Melbourne area.
Following inquiries, about 2pm on Monday Victorian Police officers arrested the man at a home on Flemington Road, North Melbourne.
An extradition hearing is expected on Wednesday morning where an application will be made to have the man extradited to Sydney and charges laid.
Police would like to thank the public for their assistance.
Operation Roam was first launched in 2011 and follows the international success of Operation INFRA Red, in which Crime Stoppers and police in Australia and around the world coordinated a global fugitive hunt.
