Mr Grayson had his legs waxed last Saturday to raise money for the cause that is aiming to secure a deposit for a house for Calala widower Cameron Adams and his two young sons.
Mr Adams and Caleb, 3, and Charlie, 1, lost their wife and mother Tiff, 28, to cancer in June and her final wish had been for her young family to move into a home of their own.
The cause touched the Graysons who have a young family as well.
“It just brought it home to us with young kids ourselves – it could happen to any of us so we wanted to do what we could to help,” Mrs Grayson said.
She said they were thrilled with the total raised from her husband’s challenge and said some donations were still to come in.
Caleb and Charlie and their grandmother, Cameron’s mum Marg, represented the family at Saturday’s “wax-off” at Tamworth’s Hands of Beauty, with dad Cameron in Sydney for another fundraiser organised by his sister.
Mrs Grayson said her husband “went really well – he hardly flinched at all” as beauty therapist Tracy Larkham separated him from the hair on his legs.
As for his new look, Mr Grayson is pretty sure it will be a “one-off” experience, while four-year-old son Benjamin keeps asking why he did it. “We tried to explain what it was all about. He’s a bit young to really understand, but said to Neil, ‘you’re a nice daddy, aren’t you’,” Mrs Grayson said.
The appeal is aimed at raising $50,000 to help Mr Adams pay outstanding medical bills and make a deposit on a home, and last month had already gone beyond the $13,000 mark.
