THE weather gods did not smile kindly on Quirindi’s Party In The Paddock, but they still helped plenty of special children in regal style.

Friends of Children With Special Needs, Quirindi, secretary Maryellen Scanlon said with heavy downpours marring the day the event was moved inside.
Instead of Party in the Paddock, the day became party in the Royal, with all activities moved to the town’s Royal Theatre.
“We were all set up on the Friday to go to the Heritage Village, but it was pouring rain, so we moved some of the kiddy games inside and the drawing competition and we could still do some the raffles,” Mrs Scanlon said.
“It was very disappointing because it wasn’t exactly what we had planned, but it was amazing how the committee worked together.
The response from the community was amazing and we still had a lot of people – everyone spread the word through social media.”
All committee members were dressed in period gear, setting the scene for a fun day.
Mrs Scanlon said the atmosphere in the theatre was wonderful, which added to the feel of the day.
“Inside the theatre was a-buzz,” she said. “There were people everywhere and we watched Frozen afterwards on the big screen.”
The day was about fundraising for the four local schools – Quirindi High and Primary, St Josephs and Quirindi Preschool, but it is too early to know how much was raised.
“It was very successful considering all the changes,” Mrs Scanlon said.
“The money will be split evenly between the four schools.”
This was the third event for the group in as many years and Mrs Scanlon said they didn’t want to hit Quirindi too hard for funds, wanting to be fair to other organisations, but would look at doing something again next year.
Hopefully the 2015 weather gods will be kinder to organisers.
