The Nomads humbled the Tamworth Kangaroos by 66 points at No 1 Oval, booting 101 to 35.
In Gunnedah, the Tamworth Swans made it two wins in succession when they beat the Bulldogs by 17 points at Wolseley Park, kicking 13.8 86 to the home team’s 10.9 69.
Thomas Byrnes (4), Gavin Knee (3) Nathan Bradburn (2) and Will Priest (2) all kicked multiples for the Swans whilst Andrew George and David Vidovic both booted three goals for the Bulldogs.
Vidovic, George, captain-coach John Woolaston and Luke Curgenven were best for the Bulldogs while Lachlan Rowling, Knee, Byrnes and Priest starred for the Swans who edged a win away from the wooden spoon.
At Narrabri, the Inverell Saints remained second on the ladder with a 13.15 93 to 11.6 72 win over Narrabri Eagles however it was the home team Eagles who soared early.
“We didn’t play that well the first half,” Saints skipper Nick Baird said.
“We didn’t really commit ourselves to the contest.”
Eagles captain-coach Todd Dunn also starred but, when the Saints “put Chris Schneider on him” in the second half, the tide turned.
“Chris did a great job on Todd, who had kicked three or four goals on us in the first half,” Baird said.
“We found ourselves four goals down and struggling at halftime but the boys really responded in the second half.”
Luke Selig was outstanding and, with fellow midfielders Tom Williams and Hamish Bird – really stepped up the Saints’ contest.
At Tamworth’s No 1 Oval, the Nomads were at their best.
“It was a tough day,” Roos coach Brett Douglas admitted.
“We were close in the first half but kept turning the ball over – our execution was pretty poor.
“They won the ball and capitalised.”
Douglas said his side had no excuses, with Daniel Leon his side’s best at centre half back, Ryan Painter good in the ruck, Nic Frawley bouncing back from a few weeks off and Mat Hughes making the most of some opportunities afforded him by Douglas.
