A tough track has been set out on the Coolah Golf Course for the two and three-kilometre races.
South Tamworth will have 11 runners in the 48-strong team and also won five of the eight team events at the zone championships at Barraba last month.
Tamworth Primary was not far behind with nine representatives and Kootingal with eight.
Dungowan was the best smaller school, with four students competing for the zone.
The Tamworth zone hopes it can emulate last year’s results after it recorded two firsts, a second and four thirds.
They will be competing against 10 other zones in eight age divisions.
The team has been holding some training sessions over the last month with good attendance.
