Last Thursday they had three drives apiece at Tamworth Paceway as they continue their pacing education.
Welsh is still at school, a 16-year-old Year 11 student at Tamworth High.
“I’ve had 23 drives so far,” he said after the first race on Thursday.
He’s had two wins so far and hopes for more.
“My first winner was at Narrabri,” he said. “Brotherbillshannon for Jeff Enks.”
Ison, 19, is a “shed rat” at Hazell’s in Tamworth.
He’s been driving for a couple of years.
“I’ve had two winners,” he said.
“I don’t get many drives though. I basically drive our own.”
He had three drives on Thursday, one of them for his brother, Ben Ison.
“I enjoy it,” he admits.
Both his brothers, Ben, 17, and 15-year-old Tom are keen as he is to train and drive pacers.
The Tamworth Harness Racing Club races again Thursday, June 5, nominations for which close at 10am tomorrow.
