JAIMIE Prendergast swims for a national title in the Sydney Olympic Aquatic Centre this weekend.
The 15-year-old Scully Park Swimming Club member, a Year 10 student at Calrossy, has earned a berth in the national under 15, 100m butterfly.
Regarded as the hardest stroke, its Jaimie’s best and she swam a personal best at the recent state titles when clocking a 1min 7.22secs.
“I’ve been swimming about four seasons,” Jaimie said yesterday.
“It’s my first national title. I’ve competed in state finals in 100 and 200m butterfly.”
She will swim heats and final of the 100m butterfly on Saturday.
Her coach, Scully Park’s Brian Watson, said Jaimie’s national berth is due to her hard work and effort at training.
“She has trained hard,” Watson said.
“It’s the result of a really good season and consistently hard training. But we have a good culture of training hard at Scully Park. They all push each other.”
That is borne out by the fact “we had six or seven at state”.
Watson and Jaimie were photographed at 360 Fitness and Gym yesterday.
Over the coming winter months it will become the home for Scully Park Swimming Club.
“It’s an amazing facility,” Watson said.
“With a facility like this our swimmers will be able to do their best all year round.
“We start the winter training here on May 5 and I’m sure it will let us have more swimmers at next year’s nationals.”
