On April 5, $1 from every six-pack of hot cross buns sold at the popular chain’s north-west stores will go to the John Hunter Children’s Hospital in Newcastle.
Dubbed “Bundraiser Day”, the initiative is aimed at purchasing vital equipment to help staff at the 114-bed hospital nurse sick children back to health.
Josh Crelley, who has run Shoppingworld’s Bakers Delight franchise since late 2012, is urging locals to support the worthy cause.
He said many residents would know some of the 50,000
families that pass through the unit each year for emergency, inpatient and surgical treatment.
“It’s a great cause and even if you don’t like hot cross buns, we’ll have a donation box on the counter,” he said.
Mr Crelley said Easter is the store’s busiest time of year, with his team expected to bake an astonishing 12,000 hot cross buns on Easter Thursday alone.
