NSW FARMERS president Fiona Simson said on Monday she was “feeling very honoured” to be one of the four finalists in The Premier’s Award for Woman of the Year.

Mrs Simson, from Bundella near Coonabarabran, was nominated because she is a leading voice for agriculture and women in farming.
The other finalists are founder of Supporting And Linking Trades-women, Fiona Shewring (Wollongong); netball champion, advocate for community building and improver of women’s wellbeing through sport, Mo’onia Gerrard (Narrabeen) and mining engineer, burns survivor and life champion Turia Pitt (from Narrawallee, near Ulladulla)
Presented on Friday (the eve of International Women’s Day), the NSW Women of the Year Awards recognise the achievements of women across our state.
The Premier’s Award for Woman of the Year recognises women who have excelled in their career, field or passion and/or have made a significant achievement in a traditionally male-dominated area.
Mrs Simson said it was “very exciting, I think humbling, particularly when I have a look at the other ladies who are nominated”.

“It is lovely to have agriculture recognised,” she said.
To be held at Parliament House on Friday morning, the awards include four categories – the Premier’s Award for Woman of the Year, Harvey Norman’s Young Woman of the Year Award, AH Beard’s Community Hero Award and Celebrate Local Women of the Year.
This is the third year running for the Premier’s and the Community Hero awards and the first for the Young Woman of the Year award.
