The Milo T20 Blast, a program for children aged five to 10, is about to start.
A program described by Tamworth Junior Cricket secretary Simon Hood as “the next step for junior cricket development” still has opportunities for young children to be involved.
He said Tamworth Junior Cricket was hosting a six-week MILO T20 Blast Program at No. 1 Oval starting this Saturday morning (8am to 9.30am).
“Players aged 5 to 10 who are not involved with junior schools cricket are invited to join the program, while children who were involved in the Term 4 MILO in2CRICKET program can also join this program for free,” Hood said.
“New participants will be required to purchase a MILO in2CRICKET kit.”
He said this season’s T20 Big Bash saw the Sydney Sixers go agonisingly close to making the finals led by local bowling hero Josh Hazelwood and speed king Brett Lee.
“Now it is our new youngest cricketers to have a go at this format of the game,” Hood said.
Trevor Wilcox has been hosting the Under 10s skills Milo in2CRICKET program for six seasons and is at the helm again on Saturday.
“The program is a perfect nursery for young players to learn the basics of cricket before entering a team and facing fast bowling on a full pitch,” Willcox said.
“To help the little players feel more at ease on the field parents are encouraged to join in the sessions and help with fielding and batting skills with their children.”
This is the best one hour of uninterrupted play time parents have with their kids that he is aware of.
Hood is hoping to attract new players to term 1’s program format of T20 Blast games and skills development.
“This program is where the start of many cricket careers kicks off – Ashton Agar, who made 99 in his Australian debut in England, started playing in the Adelaide Milo in2CRICKET sessions,” Hood said.
Hood is also seeking assistance from parents and older junior rep players to help host the program each week.
For further information on the program, please contact Hood or come along to No 1 Oval this Saturday morning to enrol.
