However he won’t be back for Sunday night’s big nine-race Golden Guitar heats meeting.
There are five Golden Guitar heats and, while Proctor won’t be back to contest them on Sunday, the Wednesday success was enough for the time being.
It was the first race of Wednesday night’s Pub Group Gold Nugget meeting and with a gelding who had, coincidentally, given him his last winner at Tamworth Paceway.
“I haven’t been here for more than 18 months and the last time I was here he’d won too,” Proctor said.
“He can go this little bloke.”
He certainly can, cruising home the last two quarters in sub 30 second splits.
“He’s always shown potential,” Proctor said.
“His full brother is the fastest three-year-old in Australia.”
Wednesday’’s win was the son of Julius Caesar’s eighth in 56 starts.
“I’ve gone back to swimming him a lot,” Proctor said.
“It’s helped him a lot.”
There are two main reasons he hasn’t been to Tamworth for such a long while.
“I’ve moved closer to Newcastle and it makes it a longer trip now,” he said.
“Plus I’ve only got a few in work. I concentrate on acupuncture now.”
Proctor thought Highland Seas was a good chance in the second race of the night as well but had to settle for second to the Milton Muggleton-trained Vicars Retreat.
The Gunnedah-trained gelding, with Dean Chapple in the spider, finished strongly to carve out a 2.5m win in a good mile rate of 2:01.9 in the $10,000 TABCORP Park Menangle Country Series Heat.
The $25,000 Final will be held at Menangle on January 25.
Elrington trainer Margot Lennox made it a winning double at Tamworth on Wednesday night when Thingimajig won the final race of the night.
Lennox and trainer-driver Clayton Harmey had combined early to win with Eltonromar before five-year-old gelding Thingamjaig won his 10th race at his 48th start.
