Luci Gerathy, Ellie Camilleri, Jayden Gimbergh, Hugh Wolfgang, Sarah Collison, Jamie Prendergast and Zarleigh Jones will compete in the upcoming championships in both individual and relay events.
The junior championships kick things off and will run today and tomorrow.
Wolfgang will compete in those. He’s qualified in the 12yrs 100m and 200m backstroke.
The rest of the Scully contingent are in the 13-18yrs championships from January 20-25.
Camilleri and Gimbergh both have pretty big programs.
Camilleri is in nine events ranging from 50m freestyle up to 400m individual medley.
She’s also qualified for the 200m IM, 200m and 400m freestyle, 100m and 200m butterfly, and 100m and 200m breaststroke.
It’s a pretty similar program to what she had last year.
She did well, making the final and coming fifth in the 200m butterfly.
That is her pet event.
“I’d like to make the final again,” she said.
She’s feeling pretty good about how she is swimming and said her times had come down since last year.
She will be racing from the first day to the last.
The first day she has two events, then three on the second day, two the next day and another two on the last day.
Gimbergh will be just as busy.
He’s in the 14yrs and will swim in the 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle, 100m and 200m backstroke, 100m breaststroke and 100m butterfly.
The backstroke events are his favourites and he’s hoping to get into the top 10, which would be finals.
Scully has also qualified its 13/14yrs girls’ team for both the freestyle and medley relays.
Gerathy, Collison, Prendergast and Jones will make up the four.
They swam the qualifying time for both at the area championships at Scully Park.
Scully coach Brian Watson said that was a great achievement, and great for both the girls and the club.
“It makes those girls not just train for themselves but for the team,” he said.
As well as being part of the two relay teams, Collison will also race the 13yrs 100m and 200m breaststroke and 100m freestyle.
Gerathy will also swim the two breaststroke events, while Prendergast also has the 14yrs 100m and 200m butterfly.
Some of the Scully contingent competed at the annual Kootingal carnival on Sunday.
The host club themselves had 50 swimmers compete and had a good carnival.
Out of 280 swim’s, the Kooty swimmers achieved 227 personal bests which was an outstanding result, coach Graham Johnstone said.
Kooty swimmers also picked up the trifecta in the 11-13yrs boys Dash for Cash, with Nathan Watts touching ahead of Samuel Ellicott and Luke Johnstone.
All three set personal best times too.
Several of the Kooty swimmers also recorded Country qualifying times.
