The Mountain Men have taken the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service on board as their charity of choice and will be supporting them on and off the field in 2014.

“The Bendy boys are going to be wearing our logo on their jumpers and also their dress shirts in 2014,”  WRHS regional co-ordinator Barry Walton said.

“They are more than happy to take us on and will have bucket collections at all home games as well as a collection bucket at the gate.

“They are probably the first second division club to take us on board and support us through their players, sponsors and fans.

“They were going to have their first charity day for us last weekend but it got washed out.

“It was going to double as a meet the coach and sign-on day.”

Jake Reid is to coach the Bendy Mountain men in 2014 and he has already talked with Walton about the charity side of the relationship as well as utilising Walton’s rugby league skills.

A former South Newcastle first grade player, Walton had been a trainer and assistant coach with Bendemeer a few years ago when Craig Power coached the Mountain Men.

“I’ll be helping out where I can,”  Walton said. “Hopefully rekindle something like when Craig was coaching them.”

He said the Bendy boys have their first hams raffle tomorrow at the Family Hotel.

“They’re starting about 11am and running in conjunction with the Family Fishing Club,” he said.
