Malcolm Naden: Australia’s Most Hunted goes behind the scenes of the chase, including never-before-seen footage of his confessions after being captured near Gloucester in March last year.
The docudrama tells the inside story from NSW police, as well as the stories of the mothers and mother-in-law of the victims, Lateesha Nolan and Kristy Scholes.
Naden was wanted for the murders of the two young mothers and the attempted killing of a police officer.
Presented by The Force: Behind the Line, the story includes crime scene photographs and dramatisation by Newcastle actor Dominic Bates in his first major role.
Commander of the NSW Homicide Squad, Detective Superintendent Michael Willing, said the show covered the whole investigation – from the time of his crimes at Dubbo, through to the manhunt operations, what it was like to talk to him, his confessions and the impact on the families of his victims.
The docudrama was filmed at Dubbo, Barrington Tops, Nowendoc and Ken’s Hut, where Naden was finally captured.
“In telling the real story it completely debunks the myth that Naden was some sort of ‘Ned Kelly’ folk hero and illustrates exactly what he is – a killer,” Detective Superintendent Willing said.
“This is the first time since Ivan Milat that commercial television has made a documentary of this length and type.”
