All emergency departments across the region will operate as normal for anyone requiring urgent medical attention.
Patients referred to services at hospitals and multi-purpose services will be notified of the arrangements for that service over the holiday period.
CHEMISTS
All chemists in Tamworth will close on Christmas Day.
Many will also be closed Boxing Day, with the exception of Blooms The Chemist, Good Price Pharmacy, Cahills Great Northern Chemist and both Chemist Warehouse stores, which will open under shorter trading hours.
THE NORTHERN DAILY LEADER
The Leader will NOT publish on Christmas Day but will publish as normal all other times, including Boxing Day.
The newsroom is working right through the festive season so news tips and media alerts can still be delivered to us via the phone or email or on our website and Facebook. The Leader’s front
counter will close Monday from 2pm and reopen at 8.30am Monday December 31. Telephone classifieds close 2pm on Monday and reopen Thursday from 8.30am.
BANKS
Closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and will reopen Thursday, December 27.
RETAIL OUTLETS
Most major retail outlets will operate with extended trading hours right through until Sunday, December 23 and Christmas Eve, Monday, December 24.
Most closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day, although Aldi, JB Hi-Fi and Kmart will open Boxing Day. Most others reopen with normal trading hours from
Thursday, December 27.

GARBAGE SERVICES
All weekly waste collections will
continue as normal throughout the
holiday period.
The council’s 10 tips will be closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
COUNCIL OFFICES/FACILITIES
Tamworth Regional Council area – closed from 5pm Friday, December 21 until Wednesday January 2.
All swimming pools will operate under their normal hours but will be closed on Christmas Day.
Liverpool Plains Shire – Quirindi HACC Centre closed Friday, December 21 and will reopen on Wednesday, January 2; Willow Tree HACC Centre closed on Wednesday, December 19 and will reopen on Monday, January 7; Werris Creek HACC Centre closed Friday, December 21 at 2pm and will reopen on Thursday, January 3; Quirindi and Werris Creek libraries closed on Friday, December 21 at 5pm and will reopen on Wednesday, January 2; Quirindi Recreation Centre closed on Friday,
December 21 at 1.30pm and will reopen on Monday, January 14.
A Holiday Fun Centre will operate for young people from Monday, January 7 until Friday, January 18 from 8.30am to 4pm each weekday.
Gunnedah Shire Council – Closed from Friday, December 21 and reopens Wednesday, January 2.
TRANSPORT
Service stations: most major outlets including Shell, Caltex and BP will remain open throughout Christmas.
Taxis – Tamworth Taxis will operate 24/7 during the holiday period.
Buses – Tamworth Buslines will not operate on the public holidays –
Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Armidale’s Edwards Coaches will also not operate on the public holidays.
CountryLink coach services will operate as normal.
Trains – Operating as normal.
Passengers will be advised of timetable changes and the CountryLink website will be updated.Due to the coal train derailment at Boggabri, CountryLink will operate road coaches between Werris Creek and Moree and return until further notice.
Flights – Tamworth Regional Airport will have limited QantasLink arrival and departure flights throughout the day on Christmas and Boxing Day.
There are no Brindabella Airlines services from Tamworth’s airport on Christmas Day, with one evening flight operating to Brisbane on Boxing Day.

QantasLink arrival and departure flights throughout the day on Christmas and Boxing Day.
PUBS AND CLUBS
All closed Christmas Day with Tamworth Services Club restaurant open at 11.15am. Most open on Boxing Day from 11am.
