Souths led 1-nil early after a Josh Armanno strike but Tim Kensell evened up the game with a well-taken goal before James Redmayne won the game with a lucky goal 25 seconds from fulltime.
In the second half South dominated.
Jason Bilsborough made two great saves but South missed some glaring chances, Greg Scott and Josh Armanno both missing open goals as the ball refused to roll South's way.
"That's the way it is," South's Barrie Pritchard said.
"Its 1-all and we miss at least six opportunities, they get a missed trap and score."
It was a painful lesson for the South forwards.
Pritchard blamed poor finishing and a slow tempo. He said a poor final minute cost his side dearly.
"We had a short corner but didn't get a shot on goal, the ball goes up the other end and we turn over possession and they score."
Workies coach and goalkeeper Jason Bilsborough was delighted with the result.
"Our defence was amazing," he said.
"The talk at the back was great and everyone worked back.
"The work rate in defence was tremendous to shut down Neil (Wood) and Baz (Pritchard), Darrin (Ruprecht) and Josh (Armanno)."
He said Mick Lawler, Andrew Bayliss and Matthew Szyc were outstanding at the back.
Pritchard nominated Dave Ross as his side's best, Sam Clifton did some good things at right half and Ben Clifton also had some good touches.
