The 2012 NSW Junior Sedan Championships will highlight the program.
The championships were originally to have been conducted last month but rain intervened and forced them to be put back a few weeks.
Junior sedan racing is for drivers between 14 and 17 using four-cylinder sedans, and the young drivers are known to provide some of the most competitive racing seen on a speedway track.
One of the favourites to take the honours will be Clayton Granger in the 63 car that took his cousin Kyle to the title last year.
Mitchell Duggan was home in second place last year and will be giving it everything to go one better this time round.
The local hopes in the field of 24 rest with Luke Grant, Anthony Caban and Alisha Pope.
The three have all been practising hard for the championships and all have shown great improvement in their driving ability and car speed.
Pope is in her second season of sedan racing and is leading the club championship points heading in.
She and her Honda CRX have had some good results over the year, most recently finishing fourth of 12 at the event in Tamworth over
Easter.
The drivers will all do three rounds (heats) of eight laps, with the top 16 moving through to the A main final, which will be a 20-lap feature.
Also today, the Formula 500s will be holding their State Series Final.
Never in the history of the series, which is held over numerous rounds at speedway tracks across NSW, have the points been so close going into the decider, with Jamie McKinlay (Bowral) just one point ahead of Matt Hunter (Newcastle).
Tamworth’s Luca Cox is third, a point ahead of last year’s winner, Michael Baxter (Newcastle).
Cox can’t realistically finish higher, with McKinlay and Hunter about 45 points ahead but will be hoping to hold onto third.
Last weekend he raced at Nowra, picking up second behind Hunter.
He was happy with how he raced and has had a pretty consistent series.
“The three rounds we’ve had I’ve finished third, third and second,” he said.
The Fender Benders will also be holding the annual “King of the Ring” event.
Racing starts at 2pm. Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for pensioners, with children under 14 free.
