On top of its first Northern Inland Premier League first grade success the club has also been recognised for its off-field activities.
Northern NSW Football presented TFC with its “Playmaker Award” for community/charity activities in recognition of its support of local cancer charity, Serendipity.
Northern NSW Football’s Gary Fisher was in Tamworth yesterday to present TFC with its prize, which consisted of 10 new footballs worth about $50 each.
“We have this award for clubs for their off-field work in six categories,” Fisher said.
“Tamworth won the community/charity award for its “pink day” for Serendipity.
“It’s good to see clubs doing this kind of work off the field.”
The club’s charity day held this season was its second and included a barbecue and raffle during the match against Wee Waa in August and a function at the Family Hotel that evening.
It raised $3500 for Serendipity and that cheque was also handed over to the charity yesterday.
Serendipity vice president Ruth Campbell said she was overwhelmed with the support from Tamworth FC and pointed out that all of the money raised by the club, and from all of its other sources, remains in the local community around Tamworth.
