The paraglider had taken off from Mount Borah shortly before 4pm when he lost control and struck a tree, in an area known as Wimborne.
Police and two paramedic crews responded to the scene, off Wimborne Road, that was 100m down an embankment, to the western side of Mount Borah.
The difficult terrain made it hard for rescue crews to access with the Westpac Rescue Helicopter tasked with a winch in a bid to try and rescue the man.
A spokesperson for Ambulance NSW said initial reports suggested the man was not injured but paramedics had been unable to assess the patient.
The local branch of the VRA was also tasked to walk down the steep embankment.
