Ø Motorists travelling in South Tamworth on Sunday (March 11) are asked to avoid a section of Robert Street to allow a final bitumen seal to be applied.
The work will take place between Duri Road and Garden Street from 10am to 4pm.
There will be disruptions to traffic with sections of the street closed to traffic while the works progress along the five blocks. Constructions signage will alert road users to the temporary detour.
Residents of Robert Street have already been notified of the works and asked to remove any cars parked on the street before 10am on Sunday.
Ø Disruptions to traffic will continue next week in Bligh Street, North Tamworth between Piper and Johnston streets.
While work to relocate the water main is in its final weeks, on Thursday (15 March) work will start on major road upgrade works.
The roadworks, to be completed in three stages, include construction of roundabouts at both the intersection of Johnston and Piper streets plus other road improvements.
The first stage will focus on the new Piper Street roundabout. The first task will be removal of traffic islands in Piper Street on both sides of Bligh Street. This will involve partial closures of adjoining traffic lanes on Thursday and Friday. Traffic controllers will be on site to manage the flow of vehicles but motorists are advised to take extra care, follow construction signage and allow extra travel time.
The roundabout work will include adjustments to the kerb and gutter alignment on each corner of the intersection and construction of new stormwater drainage in Piper Street.
From Monday 19 March the intersection will be closed to through traffic from one side of Piper Street to the other. The closure will remain in place for two weeks. Bligh Street will remain open to traffic at all times but there may be some traffic delays.
Ø Construction will start at the intersection of Appleby Lane and Manilla Road on Monday (12 March). Work will initially focus on a culvert and there will be minimal impact on traffic.
Later in the construction schedule there will be disruptions to traffic in the lane and on Manilla Road. Details will be given once specific dates are known.
The intersection works will complete a $4.3 million upgrade project which started last year on Appleby Lane to better connect areas north of Tamworth to the Glen Artney industrial area.
Funding for the project includes $1.566m from the Federal Government under the Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Programme, $1.566m from the New South Wales Government through Restart NSW and $1.193m from Tamworth Regional Council.
Ø Work will continue for about five more weeks to complete the first stage of improvements to Browns Lane at Moore Creek.
Regular users of the road are reminded a reduced speed limit of 40km/h applies in the work zone between Moore Creek Road and Forest Road.
One lane will be closed to traffic while the works are in progress with traffic controls alternating the flow of traffic. Signage will be in place to alert motorists to changed traffic conditions.
The work includes widening the roadway by about 1.5 metres as well as improvements to stormwater drainage and renewing the road pavement.
Ø Work is continuing on the construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Peel and Marius streets near Northgate Shopping Centre at North Tamworth.
There is no vehicle access from Peel Street in or out of Marius Street and construction signage shows the alternate access routes to Marius Street Medical Centre at North Tamworth and Northgate Tamworth Shopping.
Manilla Road (Peel Street) remains open to traffic at all times but the speed limit has been reduced to 40km/h. There may be some traffic delays in the busy morning and afternoon periods.
The NSW Government is providing $3.5 million to fund the second stage of the Manilla Road (Peel Street) Upgrade. Tamworth Regional Council will undertake the construction work on behalf of Roads and Maritime Services.
