Emergency services were called to reports of a fire at a Bourne St, West Tamworth home about 12.15pm.
Firefighters said on arrival it was found the blaze, which had taken hold in a bedroom mattress, was almost extinguished thanks to a neighbour and a handy garden hose through a window.
Firefighters said the quick action of the neighbour had “no doubt” saved the home from being completely destroyed.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway, but The Leader understands it was believed to have been deliberately lit. Anyone with information on the cause of the fire should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
