The Central Coast artist’s latest single, Calamity, is turning heads with its rocky edge and Sons of Anarchy-inspired video.
Released to radio yesterday earlier this week, the single is about being attracted to the wrong person in a relationship.
But in true Jayne Denham form, is not lacking trucking references.
It is the second single, after Stacks was released last year, to come from the artist’s anticipated upcoming album.
She said the idea for the song stemmed from the word, calamity, and Jayne joined with Phil Barton and Kris Bergsnes to get the song down and recorded in good time.
I also love the way it is produced, it suits my vocal range and the song and it fits the live show well.

“It’s the quickest song I’ve ever written; we wrote and demoed it in three hours,” Jayne said.
“I heard the word ‘calamity’ and thought it was a cool album idea, being the album after Renegade.
“I got together with Phil Barton and Kris Bergsnes and said the song didn’t have to be about disaster.”
She said together, the songwriters came up with the idea centred around a relationship and Jayne said many people related to it because people have been attracted to the wrong person, but they couldn’t see it at the time because they were so consumed with them.
“This may or may not have happened to me,” Jayne laughed.
“I also love the way it is produced, it suits my vocal range and the song and it fits the live show well.”
Calamity is also the title track of Jayne’s upcoming album, released on March 16 and launched at CMC Rocks Queensland.
Jayne recorded the album in the US in Jay DeMarcus’ home studio, where his band, Rascal Flatts, record. Jay also played bass on Jayne’s album.
The singer-songwriter said it was never her intention to record in the US, but her music had struck a chord with industry personnel over there because Jayne was unique – no other women were writing and singing truck songs.
She has now been invited to perform at two more truck shows this year in the US- one in March and another later in the year.
“The Australian thing works for me over there, while the Americans really understand what I do,” she said.
The album is now available for pre-order on iTunes and Jayne’s website.
