TAMWORTH’S first reverse vending machines are now up and running.

Happy campers at the city’s Carter St fields and the public will now be able to recycle their bottles and earn their vouchers ahead of the start of the Tamworth Country Music Festival next Friday.

Calala IGA, the Oxley Bowling Club, the train station, Kootingal IGA are also on the list of vending machine locations soon to come online.

Mr Anderson said from all reports, the roll-out was going well.

“I’ve spoken to the organisers who have said they’re progressing well,” he said.

“There’s a few electrical issues they have to work on to get them powered up, but apart from that we are up and running at Carter St and the one at Robert St should be up and running on Tuesday...and hopefully the others in the near future.”

It’s understood the vending machines would be moved to a permanent location after the festival.
