While Calrossy’s David Smith and Peel High’s Rod Jones are on opposite sides of town and at the helm of different schools in different systems, they both wanted to share the same messages - that students don’t need to be in major cities for a first class education and top notch results.
Calrossy topped the region with results last year, and early suggestions look like they are on par to do it again, with their 100 students combining for 567 top band results, and 32 individual students being named as Distinguished Achievers, including Eliza Falkenmire, who is expected to be at the top of the region and state, when ATAR scores are released on Friday.
Ms Falkenmire “just yelled with ecstasy” at 5.30am on Thursday morning when she woke to find results of 97 per cent in three subjects, and 94 per cent in two others, including placing third overall in the state for Physics.
“We have a lot of students that have done really well, but what we are most proud of is that every student scored in the top three bands across every subject,” Mr Smith said.
“The HSC is a long game over many years, and we are delighted in both our students and teachers and the culture they have created.”
Meanwhile at Peel High School Mr Jones was as nervous as the students on Wednesday night, and just as excited on Thursday morning when the results showed “the best set of results the school has had in several years.”
The school recorded band five results in every subject and faculty across the school, and four students named on the Distinguished Achievers list, including NSW Minister’s Award winner Curtis Wolrige who was named a Distinguished Achiever in two subjects.
“They are outstanding results across the board. Both students and staff need to be acknowledged,” Mr Jones said.
“It goes to show that if students are willing to really commit to their future then Peel can deliver the goods.”
