But that’s certainly not the case at Oxley High School, where the students have once again dug deep for those less fortunate.
They were so happy, proud and determined to try and make a difference.
- Annie O'Regan
In the true spirit of the season, the Student Representative Council (SRC) raised enough money to buy a selection of items to be distributed to local families.
“In a week and a half they raised $600 from fundraising, and they went to Kmart and bought four and a half trolley loads of gifts,” community member and helper Annie O’Regan said.
“They were so happy, proud and determined to try and make a difference.
“They worked as a team to get the job done, and I am so proud of what they have achieved,” she said.
It’s the fifteenth year the fundraiser has been held at the school.
The money was used to buy everything from stuffed bears, to games, balls and books; with something for every age group from children to adults.
Non-perishable foods items were also donated.
The Salvation Army and Uniting Care in Tamworth will distribute the goods to those who need it most.
