Part of the funding included a dedicated Hospital Museum, which opened last month with Ms Turner now serving as chief archivist and passionate enthusiast.
“It has all mostly been donated by wards, doctors, nurses and staff – I have always encouraged them to give me everything to fill in the gaps and keep a record,” Ms Turner said.
There is a dedicated cabinet to the founding matron Mrs Willis, who wanted to buy a parcel of land in Ebsworth st in the early 1800’s.
“A bargain was struck that the government would help her buy the land, but she had to build a hospital – Tamworth’s first hospital was a ten bed bark hut on Ebsworth st with one nurse,” Ms Turner said.
The museum is open from 10am to 1pm Wednesday through Friday, and on weekends by arrangement, with the displays set to change every few months.
